Napier Wedding. The wedding took place quietly at the Port Presbyterian Church, Napier, on Wednesday, of Mr. William Fcnwick, second son of Mr. John Fcnwick, of Goldsmith Road, Nupier, and Miss Catherine M'Allister, daughter of Captain M'Allister, Hospital Hill. The Rev. T. Tait performed tho ceremony. Miss E. Fenwick and Miss It. M'Allister wero the attendant bridesmaids. Mr. J. Fenwick as best man and Mr. S. Ayling as groomsman attended the bridegroom. For the Plunket Nursing Fund. Ou Wednesday a garden fete was held at Mr. J. N. Williams's grounds l , Frimley, in aid of the Hastings District Plunket Nursing Fund. Despite threatening weather there was a largo attendance, nnd the arrangements for tempting the .bar-gain-hunter were very thoroughly carried out by numerous attractive side-shows. The gross takings amounted to J;220, and it is expected that the fund will benefit to the extent of JBIBS. Desperation! A Press Association telegram received from Dunedin last evening, stated that the dearth of the supply of domestic servants has led to steps being taken locally to overcome the difficulty. A meeting to form a society for the promotion of immigration of domestic helps was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended by about 50 ladies. After tho position had been explained, it was decided to form a society for the purpose mentioned, and the names if 32 ladies willing to join were handed in. Lady Mac Lean was appointed president, Miss Rosina Buckman. Miss Kosina Buckman leaves New Plymouth to-day by the s.s. Harawa en route, to Sydney, where she is to sing tho solos . in Bach's Pasfion music, under engagement .to the Sydney Philharmonic Society. She will : subsequently go to Melbourne to rehearse for tho production of Marshall Hall's opera, "Stella" (says the "Taranaki Herald"), in which she takes the title role. At tho conclusion of this engagement she returns to Auckland to sing Sullivan's Golden Legend at tho Auckland Musical Union' 9 performance. Possibly afterwards she will go on to Wellington ani f'hrVchnrch to sing in Cavaileria Kusticana" for tho musical societies oi ttioau w.'>us. u hen these engagements are over, s'ho will give a few concerts in. New Zealand and a farewell one in New Plymouth during May, prior to leaving for Europe. Miss Clarico Buckman accompanies her sister as far ns Melbourne, where she is going to study at Marshall Hall's Conservatoire.
Mrs. John Cook, New Plymouth, who has been tho guest of Mrs. John Mackay, Stratford, left on Wednesday to spend a few days with Mrs. Stringer, at Hawera. Miss Jessie Butler, of the staff of the Stratford District High School, leaves at tho end of the month to take up her duties in the Blenheim High School. Dr. -Witi'; Pciin, Auckland, is spending si holiday with Mr. and Mrs. T. Harry l'enn at their residence, "Harbro , ," Stratford., ' ; Mrs. Gawith (Masterton), the .Misses Gawith (3), and Mr. C. Gawith leave Wellington to-day for Sydney, en route for England and tho Continent. Miss Russell, who has been spending some time with Mrs. Tewsley, is now tho guest of Mrs. Shirtcliffe. Mts. and Miss Taylor, Tikoren, arc spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs. and Miss Peat left on their return to Timaru lost evening, from a brief visit to Wellington. Mrs. Cockhsrn Hood (Glehdonald) is a visitor to AVeilington, and is staying with Mrs. Collins, Hobson . Street. Mr. and Mrs. B. Skeet (Wairarapa) have come to town to farewell Mrs. Skcet's mother and sisters, who leave for England to-day. Miss Vallance (Otahuao) and Miss Dorothy Bennett, left for Oaniaru on Wednesday, to be present at the marriage of Miss Alice Hutchison. Mrs. Ross (Christchurch) left Wellington yesterday by the lonic for England. Mr. and Mrs. Brown (Auckland) and Miss C. Brown left Wellington yesterday by the lonic for England. With them was travelling Miss Margaret Knox, of Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. A. Elworthy (Timarii), with their two sons and two daughters, left by the lonic yesterday for England. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. M'Larcn, also of Timaru, were passengers by tho same steamer for London. The annual meeting of the Richmond Free Kindergartens is to bo in the Pioneer Club Rooms this evening, at eisht o'clock. The chair will be taken by Sir Edward Gibbes, and everyone who is at all interested in kindergarten work is cordially invited to he present. Among i the business to be transacted is the elec- ! tion of the council and officers for the I ensuing year. A pretty wedding took place, in St. AnRustinc's Church. Napier, on Wednesday moriiini;, when Miss Edith May Ashton, daughter of Mr. K. Ashton, of Nnpicr, w.i= married to Mr. James Frederick M'Cartnoy, youngest son of Mr. 'John M'Cartncy, of Portobello, Dunedin. Canon Tuko performed the ceremony. Miss "E<ipo Ashton (sister of the bride) was her only bridesmaid, and Mr. C. AVeenink, of Ormoiitlvill«, was tho best man.
