REMARKS BY SIR. G. CLIFFORD. , (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Ghristchurch, March 21. Speaking at a. general meeting of tho Canterbury A. ami P. Association tonight, the chairman tor Geo. ditto™!) said , the suggestion had been made, that a largo show should bo held in New Zealand on the lines of the Roynl Show in tho Old Country; He did-not at all npprove of that suggestion. The geographical configuration of this country inado it impossible that such a show could be held Thero might, however, bo a more complete interchange of ideas between tho associations of tho South Island, nnd similarly between those of tho Aortn Island. Ho did not think they could get further in the way cf amalgamation than tho associations' conferences, which wore held triennially. Continuing, he said it was rather remarkable that so little Government assistance was given to agricultural shows. Hβ thought the Government should give a considerable subsidy to tho A.' and P. associations in consideration'of tho good • work they did. Ho did not think the Government concerned itself enough with agricultural matters. He suggested that a board of experts should ho appointed to take control of tho Agricultural Department, who would l>e independent of political wrangles.
