LABOUR AND THE WARDISTS.
"WE CAN SQUEEZE THEM." (Ey Tcleirapli.—Special OorrnsDonHenU Auckland, March 20. The "nerald" publishes a paragraph to the eifect that a gentleman connected with journalism, in tho course of a talk with one of tho Labour members a few days ago in Wellington, suggested to the latter that a mistake had been made in the breaking of pledges by two of tneir number. "Yes," said the member, "I think so now, but tho way we looked at it was this: Tho Massey crowd were tco solid and too strong for us. If we put them in power, v:hy, in a week they would have been independent'of us. Not so the Word party. They simply cannot live without our support, and we c;in squeeze them just as much as ever we like. Bosides, we never imagined that the public would take the breaking of pledges so seriously."
