Brown, lately manager of the Singer Sewing .Machine Company in Australia, and I'. Mucplierson, accountant to the company, were again before the Court to-day on charges of cow-piring to defraud tho company of .£12,744. The assi.vlant-mauagcr for the company gave eviilcnto that he ami the eu-ln<T knew oi' Brown's overdraft amount, and that the period covered was disclosed in the book*. Brown hail absolute power. Maeplicrson had to take liis instructions from Brown. Tho witness knew nothing of how Brown's overdraft was wiped off until ho received Macpherson's confession, which Jed to the present proceedings. There was nothing to show that Macphcrson had acted wrongly or in concert with nnvone else. The witness had telegraphed to Brown, who was then in India, that Macpherson had made a confos>ion and had absconded, mid asked for instructions. Brown replied, "Use your own judgment. Be guided by circumstances." Amongst tho evidence was a letter fijjm Brown to tho witness, asking him to destroy old cash books and lettei-s, in view of the possibility of a checker coming from New York. ggES ,) |i '"31
