FIRES IN THE CITY.
DAMAGE NOT SERIOUS. At about i o'clock yesterday niorniingtha Fire Brigade was called out to deal with an incipient fire in n nine-roomed house in Abel Smith Street. Tho tiro had originated in a .cupboard under the stairs. It was very soon extinguished. The cupboard and the walls alongside it were burnt, and the rest of the house was more or less damaged by heat and smoke. The house, which was owned by Mr. W. Tompsitt; of Ofaki, and occupied by Mr. Robert Whyte, was insured in tho Royal office for J£sofl. The South British Company held a risk of .£l5O over the fm-ni-ture. Yesterday nftarnoon, n fire occurred nt Xo. 8 Sussex Street. The house, which belongs to Mr. L. Pwan, was unoccupied. The fire is supposed to have started in a rubbish he-np which in some way caijuht ali.ilit. Slight damage was done. The building was not insured.
