THE TOURIST TRAFFIC.
BRISK SEASON IN THE NORTH. Business in connection with the tourist traffic in New Zealand has been very brisk since tho New Year (states the Auckland "Herald"), and Auckland has had a large share of holiday visitors from America, Australia, and Great Britain. Tho season promises to be a record one, and that there will be a big increase over last year. One feature of the tourist traffic is tho increasing number of Americans who are coming, to these shores. These visitors do not come now, ns they used to, tor a hurried look round. Frequently their tours extend over two or three months, embracing practically every place of interest, from the Bluff northwards. Several visitors who have already returned have written letters, remarking upon the favourable impressions thev have formed of this country. Anglers, ns usual, have been extremely enthusiastic, and Innno is frequently described as "the trout -place of the world." : The weather on the whole has beenparticularly good, especially in the North Island, and the regular tour through the Hot Lakes district and up the Wangnnui River has been splendidly patronised. Now and again, in letters received, there have been complaints about the bad ..fate of roads, but just ns often there has been the comment, "The scenery was worth it." The proprietors of the leading hotels in Auckland support the statement's that this tourist season is the best ever.experienced in New Zealand. Their accommodation has been considerably taxed since a month before Christmas, and it has been found -necessary, in several cases, to prepare for extensive additions to hotel premises.
