ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
* "FOUND DKOWN'ED." The City Coroner (Dr. A. M'Arthnr, S.M.) held an inquest at the morgue yesterday into the circumstances surrounding tilt; deatli of Henry Wilkinson, a wharf labourer, whose body was found in the harbour, near King's Wharf, on Wednesday last. Sergeant Fitzgerald represented the police. From the evidence it appeared that deceased had been disabled nbout two years ago, and had siueo dono no work. After the accidont ho was on the insurance list for about eight months, and subsequently received n sum of X 75 compensation from an insurance company. Recently he appeared to have been without means. About three weeks ago he went to board at Ihe residence of Mrs. Caroline Smith in Sydney Street, a friend paving his hoard for a fortnight. On Monday' morning last lie left, the place, Iml relumed later in the dav for ■ meals. In Ihe evening Mrs. Smilli gave • him money to gel a bed. Deceased re- • turned again on Tne-day. and asked to • lie allowed to sil in Ihe kitchen for Ihe night, but his reipicst was not acceded 10.
