THE TRENTHAM RIFLE MEETING.
Sir,—The rifle meeting at Trontham, just concluded, provided many causes for just complaint and dissatisfaction on tin part of competitors, and it is to be greatly regretted that the Dominion Kilic .Association should have received such n blow as to cause nearly a 50 per cent, reduction in entries, as compared Willi tho meeting of 1911. Firstly, the toanif matches—A Scries—were to start on lh< AVedncsdav, and one team only paradec at Ihe squadding posts. l'ostponemenl followed postponement, and eventual!] another rifle club scraped together theii team, and one only of the series of scvei matches was fired. On this series tin association saved about .£9O, of vliiel nioro nnon. Again, entries were rcceiv ed for the Champion Teams' Match oi the programme as issued, yet when th teams paraded, having paid full fees, ih announcement was made that the prize money was reduced from .£GD to 4:i!8. "5 e the association saved about' £S0 on .- Series. Kcferring to the barrels, as con doiimed bv the "expert" as "match" bar r-cls on such barrels being shown t Colonel Hughes, that officer instantly re cognised them as being of Governmcn pattern and issue. It is greatly to lie regretted that sue a national institution ns "Trontham' should be subjected to a slow but sur death on the part of probably well-mean inp officers, ignorant; of colonials ani colonial conditions.—l am, etc., ZERO.
