(Napier),' For Contract No. 3 (power station, car-shed, ~and repairshop equipments) the following tenders wero received:—British General Electric Compiny, Limited (Sydney and Wellington), .£15,448 11s.; Turnbull and Jones, Ltd. (Wellington), I'lG.tK! Us.; same firm (alternative), XIG.3G7; F, S. Greenshields and Co. (Wellington), .£16,616 3s. 3d.; James J. Niveu and Co. (Napier), ,£15,277; Arthur D. Eil«y and Co.,' Ltd. Tho council decided to accept tho tender of Greenshields ■nnd Co. for Contract No. 2, and that of Turnbull and Jones for Contract No. 3, with deductions recommended by Sir. Black, consulting engineer, on condition that the ratepayers sanction a further loan of ,£IO,OOO, to complete tho scheme. The further loan is rendered necessary by the increase in cost of the material during last year.
