As a result of recommendations contained in the Temperance and Public Morals Committees' reports, resolutions were passed expressing satisfaction at the splendid vote recorded in December last in favour of National Prohibition, and urging the people to maintain unremitting efforts until this prolific curse was utterly removed, and emphasising the injustice of the three-fifths handicap. . The conference, while rejoicing that the calling of bookmaker was no longer legal in the Dominion, regretted to learn that owing to the encouragement given to betting by the totalisator thero had been a great increase in the tide of gambling. It therefore expresses its conviction that the Government should take early steps for the abolition of the totalisator. A motion, strongly denouncing everything that tends to increase in Sunday Jabour, and deploring lack of Sunday observance, was passed. •The conference also protested against the Ne Temere Decree. The conference passed a motion heartily supporting tlio proposal mado oy the Teachers' Institute to the effect that tlio Minister for Education be urged to provide two special instructors for the purpose of giving senior scholars of primary schools a similar course of instruction in the elements of social physiology to the course already given by tlio secretary of the White, Cross League. It was announced that tho election for chairma'n of districts had resulted as follows:—AVanganui, tho Rev. G. Vt. J. Spenco; A\ 7 ellington, tho Rev. S. J. Serpell; Canterbury, tho Rev. C. H. Laws; Nelson, the Rev. AV. Baumber; Ofago, the Rev. P. AV. Fairclough; Auckland, tho hon. president ex officio. It was stated that' tho committee set up by the conference to consider the question of Bible in schools had resolved to heartily recommend the conference to express its approval of the New South Wales svstoni, and, in co-operation with other religious bodies, to take such steps as should secure like benefits for tho children of the Dominion. Tho report of tho committee was adopted. The conference practically, concluded today.
