LICENSING ELECTIONS.
WELLINGTON SUBURBS AND HUTT.
The election of five members for the respective Licensing Committees of- Wellington Suburbs District, and the Hntt Licensing District, was held yesterday, the result of tho polling being as follows ;— Wellington Suburbs and Country Districts—W. Cook, 524; H. N. M'Leod, 523; Lily 507; C. Cathie, 492; J. Reith, -ISO. Tho unsuccessful candidates were:-F. F. Moore, 231; W. Gallowav, 21S; T. H. Eastwood. 200; G. Stevens, 100 Hutt-,T. Cotton, 591; O. Stevens, 553; H. E. Ryder, 501; J. Cudby, 46C; R. W. Short, 433. Tho unsuccessful candidates wcro:-M. W. Welch, 432; J. W. M'Ewan, 421; T. Waugh, 3CI. The Stipendiary Magistrate of the district is, ex officio, chairman of tho respective committees when in session. CHRISTCHURCH. (By Teloeraph-Prcss Association.! Christchurch, March 12. For the Christchurch Licensing Committee, tho four Temperance ticket candidates were returned, andono independent. Light hundred and seventy informal votes were cast, duo to too many names being Jelt. In Riccarton, where the contest was Keenest, owing to the intention of the lemperanco party to veto tho conditional licenses in connection with the races trots, and agricultural show, the Moderate party was successful bv an overwhelming majority.
DUNEDIN. Dunedin, March 12. The Licensing Committee elections in tho city and Dunedin South did not attract a great deal of attention to-day. In the city only about 8900 people, out of some 29,000 on the roll, exercised their votes. Candidates were nominated by both tho temperance and moderate parties, and the lollowing were elected,—Messrs. AV Barnclt, W. Bolcher, T. J. Sullivan (Moderate), and G. Calder and A. H. Burton (lemperanco). In Dunedin South tho following were elected:—Messrs. Marlow Cuttle, Burk (Moderate), Fillis and Wright (Temperance).
AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 12. At the election of the Auckland City Licensing Committee, the old committee was re-elected, Mr. William Richardson, the sixth candidate, being defeated.
BLENHEIM, Blenheim, March 12. There was very little interest in the poll for tho Licensing Bench. Out of over COOO voters, the highest polled by ono candidate was 678. Three of the old committee were re-elected, and two new members. Ono old member was defeated.
GISBORNE. Gisborne, March 12. Great interest was shown in the Gisborne licensing election. The results arc as follow:—Dewing (Trade), 755; Hepburn (Trade), 723; Somervell (Prohibition), 654Darton (Prohibition), 577; M'Leod (Prohibition), 555. These wore elected. All were members of the old committee. The other candidates were: Coleman (Labour) 397; Hall (Labour), 330; Beer (Independent), 285. Returns from four outlyin<* booths have yet to come, but they cannot affect the result.
TEMUKA AND WAITAKI. Timaru, March 12. The Temuka and Waitaki Licensing Committee elections went against tlio Temperance tickets.
NELSON. Nelson, March 12. The Licensing Committee election resulted in the return of the moderate ticket in the first three places. The NoLicense party secured ono seat.
