The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Primate of Australia (Dr. Wright), accompanied by .Mrs. Wright, was a passenger for Sydney by the Maheno from Auckland on Monday. He has been spending a few weeks' holiday in various parts of the Dominion, and while in Auckland has been the guest of the Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Crossley). Mo?sr«. W. T. Grundy (Wellington) and 11. G. Couzens (Auckland) have been elected teachers' representatives for the North Island on the Teachers' Superannuation Board, and Messrs. W. Davidson (Morning/ton, Dunedin), and Mr. .1. A. Valentino (Timiini), for the South Island. Mr. C. Alkin, son of the late Mr. Walter Atkin, proprietor of the Westport "News," is on a brief visit to Wellington. He is accompanied by his wife. Major-General Godley, C.8., left yesterday for Gre.itford, where lie will inspect'the 7th Regiment (Wellington West Coa>:t Rifles), who are encamped there. Mr. Robert Parker, who has heen so prominently associated with the development of music in Wellington for many years past, has resigned his position as conductor of the Wellington Musical Union. "With much regret," he wrote to the committee of the union, "I have decided not to oil'er myself for re-election to tho cotnductorship of the union. If anything could alter tho resalution which I have slowly and painfully formed, it would be the kindness and consideration w.ith which the president has dealt with mo in the matter, but I have an insistent feeling that I am doing right in now withdrawing from this work—work which has been one of the greatest pleasures of my professional life, and in which I havo received so much kindness and loyal help from, my fellow-workers." On receipt of this letter a deputation waited upon Mr. Parker and asked him to reconsider his decision, but ho could not see his way to comply. He suggested, .however, that "an opportunity might be given to a young and exceptionally gifted local musician, Mr. Eric Waters, to take the conduetovship"—adding that he thought- Mr. Waters would make a success of the task if it were entrusted to him. .The Musical Union will tender Mr. Parker a complimentary concert, at which "The Golden Legend' will bo performed under Mr. Parker's baton, n.nd thoso who were, associated with him in past years will bo invited to take part in tho concert.
