.o ■ ■ (By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.! Palmcrston, March 12. The annual meeting of tho Manawatu Physical Training School was held last evening, Captain' Robinson being in tho chair. Tho report showed that Hie membership had greatly increased during the year, and that there was a small balance to credit on the financial side. Mr. P>. M'Nab was elected patron, Dr. O'Brien president, and some twenty vice-presidents were appointed. Mr. L. Hanlon was'elected secretary, Mr. C. Allen instructor; committee, Messrs. W. Crump, F. J. Oakley, P. Henry, Taylor, and Nelson. "How to tee Europe" was the title of an address given at tho Men's Social Club last night by Mr. H. Drew, the lecture being illustrated by lantern. Court Manawatu Foresters held its meeting last evening, Bro. A. Levy, C.R., being in the chair. Ono new member was initiated, and another proposed. It was decided to assist the I'riendly Societies' Council in the arrangements for the coming concert, and to form a tableau in the procession before the entertainment. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash) has been appointed the Wanganui Education Board's representative on he Palmcrston High School Beard of Governors. 'Hie first meeting under the. new district scheme of tho Manawatu Rugby Union was hold last evening, Mr. C. 51' William in tho chair, when a strong club was formed for the northern division of the district, the following officers being elected:—President. Mr. J. A. Nash; vice-presidents, Drs. O'Brien and Peach, Messrs. J. P. Innes. A. E. Bennett, A. H. Rogers, T. Stubbs; secretary, Mr. T. Shcerin; treasurer, Mr. W. Bcon; management committee, Messrs. Proude, Greathead. Gardener, Stagpoole, P. Sheerin, and officers ex officio; selection committee. Messrs. Groathead, Boon, and M'William; delegates to union: senior, Messrs. M'William, Greathead, and Stubbs; junior, Mr. P. Sheerin. Tho quarterly meeting of the ralmerston Chamber of Commerce was held last evening, Mr. M. A. Eliolt being in the chair. In rcferenco to deputation to Hie Minister for Railways on Wednesday, it was decided to urge on the Minister the desirability of erecting a new station instead of patching up the present one, tn was proposed. The Kniranga County and Palmcrston Borough Council, and the A. and P. Association intimated that they would bo represented at the deputation. It was decided,to hold monthly meetings. The. matters of a bond at Palmcrston and the aireement between the Gas Company and'the Borough Council areto be discussed at next meeting, as also the action of the Labour Department in nliompting to nrevent shopkeepers from delivering goods bv contract after closing hours. Captain Haydon, who leaves on a trip to England in April, was granted six months' lcnvo of absence. Four new members were elected.
