YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE. Last FrHav 'evening a very pleasant function took place 111 tho form of a social evening, tendered by the Hoard of Management, and the members of the Young Men's Christian Association to the Ladies' Auxiliary. Between 50 and U0 persons sat down to supper, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Mr. IJ W. Kersley, in proposing the toast of the Ladies' Auxiliary, emphasised how magnificently and unselfishly they had worked for tho welfare of the institution's success, and in doing so made special reference to tho honorary president (Mrs. Williams), who had mado it possible for tie building to be erected. Ho expressed, on behalf of the board and the members, his very highest appreciation of the unti :ing efforts nnd invaluable work which the Ladies' Auxiliary had accomplished. Mrs. Campbell, president of the Auxiliary, returned thanks ou behalf of her committee. Mr. W. Badden, in proposing the toast of the Board of Management, pointed out that they held office, not for their own sakes, but they worked very arduously and boro Ihe responsibility of managing such au institution for the young men nnd boy's, and beca.iso of that fact he hoped the members would do their share aud mako a united effort to advance the work which is no.v being carried on. Mr. C. S. Fa'ilkner, after expressing thanks, emphasised what tho mover of the toast had said, in wishing that the members would band more firmly together and push on the work of the institution. In moving tho to'dst of the association, Mr. E. if. Hyan specially emphasised the aim and object of the association, namely, bringing into God's Kingdom men and boy=. He mentioned a few cases out of innumerable instances whsra long and lasting help had been rendered. Mr. C. X. Howard proposed tho toast of tho "Social Committee. Ho wished to thank them for the splendid programme which they had given them that evening. The last toast of the evening was that of the Chairman, nnd in moving; same, Mr. J. C. Port spoke in tho very highest teims of the deep thought aud great amount of time which the chairman (Mr. H. V>'. Kersley) had spent on behalf of the association, and said tho members ought to be glad that they had such an active business man talcing an interest in their welfare, in euch a practical way. Mr. Kersley replied in a few words, snying that it was indeed a great pleasure to him to be able to do anything for tho young men ot the city. He laid stress upon the fact that they should do their utmost to increase the membership of the association within the next few months, and appealed' to the present members to do this. Tim following programme was given:— Duet, Messrs. W. Bryant and ■«'. C!audio; recitation, Mr. C. Young; song, Mr. W. Lewis; monologue. Mi'. 3. Kniikin; song, Mi'. .1. li.
