LABOUR AND ITS LEADERS.
POSITION AT AUCKLAND. tDs TolesraDb —Prca* Auckland, March 10. Tlio position regarding tho general labourers' dispute is unchanged, but, by .many, it is considered that the trouble is by no'means nt an end. The Federation officials are understood to be addressing u series of meetings of workers, and tho Federation will still demand recognition at the hands of the employers. The Auckland Tramways Union, by resolution, lias urged the trades unions of Auckland to take tho necessary steps to select a candidate for the Mayoralty election next mouth. Speaking at a meeting this afternoon, Professor Mills advocated a union of all tho trades unions in tho Dominion into a Federation of Labour, and should there be a dispute between any union and its employers, no strike should tako place without tho consent of this Federation. The following resolution was passed at a special meeting of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union:—"This union believes that any union of workers formed at the instigation of employers, when another union is already in existence, must inevitably work and exist in the interest of the master class. Therefore, the secretary of this union is hereby instructed to have no dealings whatever with any such body, and, in particular, to ignore the existence of a second General Labourers' Union."
