WANGANUI JOTTINGS.
THE DIMLY-LIGHTED HEADS; (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.] Wartganui, March 9. Mrs. Prowse, who was killed in a motorcar accident at Auckland on Friday, was the wife of Mr. Saxby Prowse, a wellknown old resident of Wanganui. Mr. F. S. Smith has announced himself as a candidate for the Borough Council vacancy, thus making five in tho..field. Local shipmasters are at present voicing .in old g'rievnncc, viz.. the inadequacy of light at Wanganui' Heads. At present tile Castlecliff light is only an ordinary shin's .masthead light hoisted at the top of the flagstaff, and is visible for only a few miles, even in. fine weather. The Wanganui coast. t>eing law-lying, presents few guiding features at any lime, and is especially diffoult to pick un in thick' weather." The difficulty isincrea.'-eil by the very low power and short ranse light that now "does duty. Considering the growing importance of the port and the near prospect of much larger vessels trading here, representations are to bo made to the Marine Department on the subject.
