HEMP AND TOW GRADING.
RETURNS FOR FEBRUARY. The' return of the hemp and tow graded in New Zealand by the Agricultural Department during February shows that tho total number of bales of hemp graded was 9291, as compared with 8897 for tho corresponding month of last year, an increase of 391 bales. For the twelve months ending February , 29, 1912, the number of bales graded Was 85,512, as compared with 125,655 for the previous twelve months, the decrease being 40,1-13 bales. Of tho total last month, Foxton contributed 4221, AVellington 36G1, Auckland 734, Bluff 308, Picton 165, Napier 107, and Dunedin 92. The Wellington contribution was graded us under;—B4 superior fine, 2257 good fair, 1187 fair, 110 common, 23 rejected. The Foiton grading was 1583 goad fair, 255G fair, 7G common, 9 rejected. • The Picton lot was 95 fine and 70 good fair, and Napier's 107 were all good fair, During tho month 2737 bales of tow wore dealt with, as compared with 347G for tho corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 739 bales. The total for last month was mado up as follows:— Wellington 1019, Foxton 1038, Auckland 289, Bluff 108. Lytfcelton 78, Picton 55, Napier 55, Waikuku 51, and Duncdin 14. Of the Wellington grading 257 boles were first grade, 544 second grade, 125 third grade, and 123 condemned. For Foxton tho details nrc:—lßo first grade. 7GO second grade, 98 third grade. Picton had •IS first grade and' 9 third grade. Tho Napier offering was all second grade.
