Y.M.C.A. BOYS' DEPARTMENT.

. 1 ,An early start is being made in the winter's work of the Y.M.CA. Boys' Department, and; in the ndxt few weeks, it is hoped to have- the season's programme in full swing. A beautiful silver-mounted shield has been presented to tho department for indoor competitions, the boys being divided into groups, with a captain at the head of each. The captain 01 the winning team will havs his name on the shield, and. several medals will be given as well. In'ercstinj addresses of an entertaining and instructive nature are given each Friday night, when the rooms aro open to members from 7 p.m. till 0.30 p.m. Outdoor recreation, of course, appeals to the boy, and the cricket and swimming clubs arc doing well. The .swimming club gets off an averago of two races a week, and some of the lads are showing a marked improvement in aquatic sport. The C.C.X.T. Social Club entertained She. Donald M'Lcan Street cricket bam ■ on Saturday evening, and on enjoyable evening was spent. Aftor various competitions Iho gathering was brought to a closo with supper and a musical programme. The big Easter camp is now weir in hand, and is being worked up by a strong group of seniors The executive officer-; for this year are Mr. W. Eglin (leader), W. J. Afcnrs (deputy-leader), ;\ml. K■ .M. Ryan (secretary). The camping-ground is on J[r. .Field's estate at Wnikunac. J-'ive days will be spent under canvas and a pleasant time is being looked forward to liy the boys. The fees this year are: Juniors Ss. Cil., intermediates 7s. (id., non-members Js. extra. A neat. camp circular has been printed, and (he camp is open to any boy of good character. The department feels the loss of Mr. 13. K. Kills, who has been, transferred to Dunedin. Last I'riday evening nu address was given bv Air. l{. liiwn, who took for his subject "You Can't Rub It Out." Occasion was taken.on that evening to unveil (.lie memorial tablet, placed in the rooms in memory of the lato Vernnn Richardson.
