Fcrryside Croquet Club, The I'errysitle Croquet Club is arranging for a club singles championship contest, which, it is hoped, will commence at Day's Bay next Saturday. The drawing for the first round is as follows:— Miss Edmondson v. Miss M'Elddwney (bye); Mrs. C'ardale v. Mr. Whitehouse (bye); Mrs. Nicol v. Miss Sim (bye); Miss Briggs v. Mr. Beere; Miss Mandl v. Miss Foss; Mrs. Geddis v. Mrs. Mandl; Mrs. Warbuiton v. Miss Maudsley; Miss Von Dadelszen v. Mr. Mandl; Miss Beutley v. Miss Zolirab; Dr. M'Gcorge v. Miss Zohrab (bye); Mrs. M'Villy v. Mrs. Whitehonso (bye). Given good weather the other unfinished competitions should now be cleared off in a week or two.

Nursing the Sick Poor. The committee of tho District Nursing Guild of St. John held its monthly meeting on Monday afternoon. Mrs. E, Bal-combe-Brown presided, and there were present Mesdames S. D. Tripe, A. A. Corrigan, H. W. Preston, Miss M. E. Kobieson, and Mrs. W. B Fisher, lion, secretary. A report submitted by the senior district nurso showed that 570 visits had been paid to patients in their own homes during February, and that 37 cases had been attended to. Nineteen additional cases had been registered during the month, 10 patients discharged, and 5 sent to the general hospital. There was one death.

Various comforts, old linen, etc., were received from Madaines Moorhouse, Metz, Eiddiok, Harper, G. Tripe," Lissiok, Downard, Blundell, Johnston, Darrall, Preston, Waters, Luke, Gillin, Cassin, Chalwin, Itnnwcll, Burne, Miss M. E. Robinson, Gear Co., "A Friend," end Veitch and Allan. The committee acknowledge the followingadditional subscriptions:—Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, .£1 Is.; Mrs. A. A. Corrigan, £1 Is.; Mrs. D. Anderson, £1 Is.; Mr?. Burne, ,C 1 Is.; and Miss M. E. Robieson, .fills.

Our Girls' Branch of Victoria League. There was a large attendance at the first meeting for the season of the Our Girls' Branch of the Victoria League, held in the Pioneer Club rooms. Mrs. Corliss (president), was in the chair. A syllabus was drawn up for the reading and dramatic circles, and offers of prizes for hand-made blouses, home-made cakes, and short stories were received. The English League is offering prizes for a short story and sets of photographs and the countess of Jersey has offered a special prize fora poem on the subject of the: recent visit of the King and Queon to India. Miss Shirtcliffo was elected secretary, and the committee will be glad to welcome now members. Miss Myers'will.give a paper on "Annual Life , ' at the next meeting of the branch.

Victoria League in Auckland, The Auckland branch of tho Victoria League holds its annual meeting on Thursday. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington hnvo intimated their intention of being present if possible. The league has made good progress since last year, membership having nearly doubled. Many libraries have been sent to the back-blocks, and correspondence with school children all over the world arranged.

A Bridge Party. A very enjoyable bridge party was given yesterday afternoon by Airs. Mnrchbanks. The prizes were won by Miss Douglas, Mrs. T. G. Macarthy, and Mrs. Gillon. Tea and coffee were served in the diningroom, in which were arranged phlox of every possible shade. In the drawingroom were beautiful roses. Mrs. Marchbanks woro a fjrey and white striped voile, finished with a black satin sash, and Mrs. H. Gore, who assisted with the tea, was in a cream braided costume and bluck hat. '
