CRICKET. PROJECT OF AUSTRAL TOUR. MEETING LAPSES. A special meeting (if delegates to tlic Wellington Cricket Association was to have been held last night to consider whether, or not, the association would give ils support to the proposal to send n team to Australia next season. The meeting lapsed through lack of a quorum, and it was decided to hold it iu two weeks' time. Mr. D. M'Kcnzie said that ho would give notice of a motion (to be brought on at the same meeting) regarding abolishing the district scheme. He thought that that would draw a good attendance. Following on a sngxestiun emanating from Mr. K. Plunket Shield Proposals. Regarding the proposed alterations in the I'lunket Shield rules it was decided to make the following suggestions to the New Zealand Cricket Council:— The present system'should be abolished in favour of the Australian system of determining their Sheffield Shield competition. All of the associations entitled to compete should play, every season, not less than one out anil one home match in order to qualify; and the shield should be awarded to the team showing the greatest number of points. , Three points should be allotted for an outright win, two for a first-innings' win, and one point for a tie or a draw. Three points should be deducted for au outright loss, and two points for a - loss piL the' first, innings. In the event of a points tie, the team scoring tho greatest, proportion of runs' per wicket should be adjudged the winner of the shield.

THIRD-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP. The fixtures for the third-class-cham-pionship have been altered as under. The matches originally set down for March 0 will bo played on that date, and the matches set down for tho 2nd inst. will be played on March 16:—
