ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION.

Mr. Leopold de Rothschild, of the famous banking family, was entering a motor-car at his offices in St. Swithin's Lane, when a man fired three shots at him. On being arrested the man gavo the name of AVilliam Tcbbilt. He is a Jew, and is unknown to Mr. da "Rothschild. For ten years he followed tho occupation of a leather-merchants' agent in Australia. He arrived from Melbourne in March last, his wife being still in Australia.
