IN DEFEXCK FORCE. Lieutenant (temporary captain) Arthur Cunlill'o Bernard Critehley-Salmonson. Royal Minister Fusiliers, having arrived from England, has taken up his duties as instructor in infantry duties, Canterbury Military District. Lieutenant, G. \V. Braddcll has been transferred from the district staff, Canterbury,, to bo adiutant, ,2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment, (Wellington Kast Const Rifles). The following officers have been granted tho temporary rank of captain while 'employed as adjutants :of balti lions:—Lieutenants. Harry M'Kollar Wliito Hichardson, Lieutenant ■ George William Braddell. Lieutenant Alfred Charles Cor.nwallis Stevens has been, granted the teiiiporary rank of captain while employed as staff officei' for junior cadets. It has been decideil to increase tho number of N.C.O.'s on the permanent stnff, and various conditions and information for applicants are published in tho General Orders of March 1. The following N.C.O.'s ore required for each military district: One N.C.O. for field ambulance; one N.C.O. for signal companies; one mounted rifle instructor; ono infantry instructor; sixteen area sergeant-majors each for Wellington and Auckland districts; twelve area sergeant-majors each for Canterbury and Otngo districts. They will also bo required to assist in instruction of padets and rifle clubs. Preference will be given to qualified candidates in the following order:—(a) Present serving members of the N.Z.I!.A. and Territorials; (b) ex-members of the N.Z. South African contingents, ex-Terri-torials, and ex-Imperials residing in Sew Zealand. The undermentioned have been appointed' (on probation) to the New Zealand permanent staff-.-S. Moore, late sergeantmajor, junior cadet department, area ser-geant-major, No. 20 area, vico Steel, resigned, Napier; J. Chapelhow, sergeantinstructor, "Nnpier; J. H. Levy, sergeantinstructor, Napier.
