MOTOR TRANSPORT CO. (Bi TclccraDh.—SD»clal CorrecDondent.) Palmerslon, March 5. Tlio annual meeting of the i-almerstott Brass Buml was held last evening. The r?porl and balance-sheet were considered satisfactory, the statement of accounts showing the assets to be J.'3M above the liabilities. Mr. JJ. Clunker was elected a life member. A. vote of thanks was accorded Conductor Berryman for services. The gold medal, donated by Cnptain Moiinsey tor best attendance at practices and all-round improvement, was awarded to Bandsman A. Andrews. The gold mcil.il donated by Major Dunk for the smartest man on parade during'the year, was. awarded to Bandsman K. Whitehead. The. Campbell Street School Committee met last evening, the Kev. T. T. Thomas in the chair. The headmaster, Mr. 1 ,, . E. Watson, reported that Die roll number was 712. The attendance hud gone up materially since the holidays. Misses 1. M'Kenzie and K. Buchanan had Ijcpii , appointed pupil teachers. The Education Board intimated that it would pay swimming capitation if baths were established, and it was decided to hold a special meeting in a fortnight to go further into the matter of swimming baths. At a meeting of the St. John Ambulance- Nursing Guild last evening an offer from tlio Mayor to promote a concert in aid of the funds was accepted, and a committee was unpointed to assist in the matter.

The annual meeting of the Men's Social Club M'ns held last evening, Jlr. J. Davidson bein™ in the chair. Tht balancesheet disclosed a satisfactory balance to credit, anil it was shown that the membership was fast increasing. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. ,1. A. Nash; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. Buiclc. M.1 , ., H. S. Abraham, 1). M'Xab. and \V. V. Durward; secretary, Mr. C. Uaydon; treasurer, Mr. U. M'Phcrsonj auditor, Mr. W. J. Mitchell: committee, Messrs. Bell, Pratt, Kveritt, llicksird, Tait. Mills, Greenfield, Xicol, and Kevs. Messrs. Roscher and Thomas, with power to add to their number. Miss Glendinniiifr, who inaugurated tlio club, was elected a life member. It was arranged, to hold a concert at an early date to assist in paying for tho billiard table.

At a meeting of the executive appointed at a recent public mooting to go into the. question of forming a Motor Transport Company, last night, it was clpcidoil to form a company with a capital of .£IO,OOO, in £1 shares, ami a provisional directorship was appointed. The object of the company is to facilitate transport between Palmcrston and the country districts not served by the railway. The Manawntit Kugby Union took further steps at a meeting last night in the matter of dividing the district into sections, ond the Management Committee was empowered to arrange the boundaries. Jt is hoped under the new scheme to give football in the district a fresh impetus, tho ganio having been very slow last season.
