Tho , General Labourers' Union went about its work ns usual to-day, and its officials marked time again, as far as tho deadlock with tho City Council and employers is concerned. Tho president of the Federation of Labour, after long and vain efforts to meet the Mayor in oflicial conference was received in his private capacity to-day, but tho meeting left things much as they were. Members of the union seem ni'ito of (ho opinion that ii strike is certain before long. Tho union will meet to-morrow night when some decision may bo arrived at. Auckland, March 5. At a conference of delegates of suburban local bodies with the City Council, the Mayor of Auckland stated that ho had received an unofficial request that the' conference should hear a deputation from the Federation of Labour. Tho conference decided by 2;i votes to I that it was unnecessary to receive the deputation. The delegates adopted the schedule of wages passed by tho Cily Council,
