ANNUAL CONFERENCE. IBy TelcEraph-Press Association.! Rotorua, March 5. The Five Brigades' Conference to-day passed remits amending tho rules for the competitions. i Tho president, MY. Boyns, presented .ifnr.-j for twenty-five years' syrvico to iifleeii members, and also presented to Fireman Gilbcrd, on behalf of his father (e.Y-J.'resiiient Gilbenl, of Napicrl, tho life incmkor.sliip badge of the association. Invitations wero received from Palmerston and Wnnganui for tlio biennial demonstration and conference next year. Tho brigades will ballot on this matter by post. Past-President Robbins read an instructive paper on "Homo Objects of tho United Fire Brigades' Association." A committee was set up to consider ways and means of improving the lire and ambulance, record, and a subsidy of JfrXi was voted. Tho secretary was voted an-honorarium of .£IOO. Tho election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Lieutenant Lewcr (Weslport), unopposed; viee-prosideiifs, J)epHly-.Superintendent Kalnion (Dunedin) and Captain Campbell (Timaru); treasurer, Superintendent Spriggins. The installation of officers and the presentation of a past president's certificate and lifemembership badge to President Boyes concluded tho conference.
To-morrow the citizens entertain the delegates at a trip across the Lake, and, on Friday, the Wairoa Geyser will lie scaped, tlio finale being :i smoke concert on Friday. The annual meeting of tho Fire Brigades' Association Accident Assurance; Society was held this evening, Captain Hansen (Westport) presiding. The report stated (hat the brigades affiliated number 90, with a membership of MOO. Contributions amounted to .£l9B Us. 2t1., and (ho total receipts to .£273 12s. 7d. Payments for accidents amounted to .£2lO 10s.; total accumulated funds, ,£1723 8»., an increase of .£Ol Os. 7d. for the year. Management funds receipts '(including £26 19s. sd. carried forward) tot ailed ,C(SB Sis. 5d., and expenditure .030 10s. 7d. The position of tho society warranted tho adoption of a small scalo of rebate.
