OTAKI.

The monthly meeting of the B.M. Court yesterday was largely occupied by two cases. The first was one in which Byron Brown claimed £16 10s. for grazing rights from Stanley Beattie. Plaintiff was awarded .£l6, costs .£5 9s. Beattie counterclaimed for for loss of stock, but the magistrate dismissed the case. Beattie proceeded against Mark Bird for '£25 loss of o dog killed by defendant, whilo Bird counter-claimed £6 9s. for loss of sheep through Beattie's dog. The first charge was dismissed, but Bird was awarded JS2 9s. damages. On account of the death of Mr. W. H. Field's father, the proposed trip from Otaki to Greytown over tho Tararua ranges has been postponed till next week. The funeral of the lats Mrs. Temiata took place yesterday, and was attended by relatives and friends. The service was conducted by tlie Eev. Mr. Tenvuora. Mr. Whiiro Gray last week found wlhat appeared to be ambergris, and forwarded a eamplo to Wellington. Word was received yesterday that tho sample is a fair one. but that it contains mnoh outside matter. The weight of the piece is 13lb.
