OBITUARY.
MR. HENRY C. FIELD. (Hi Tcleeraph.—Special Correspondent! Wanganul, March 1. An old colonist passed away on Wednesday night in the person of Mr. ITcnry Claylauds Field, 8.C., who died at hit rcsi'donco at Aramoho, at the age of 87. Deceased was born in Hampshire, and was apprenticed at the ago of 20 to Sir John Ronnie, the celebrated engineer who built the London Bridge 110 came to New Zealand in 1555 and, for many years, acted as engineer to the Wangauui Town Hoard and various road boards of the district. He was responsible for the survcv aud construction of no fewer than two thousand miles of roads up and down this coast and inland. Ho rotired from active pursuits in 1884, but right up till his death, he took a keen interest in current affairs, and was a frequent contributor to tho press, 110 was an ardent horticulturist, and his book "Ferns of New Zealand" is recognised as a stand•ml. Ho was also a member of tho Wellington Diocesan and General Synods for many vears. Ho leaves five daughter! and six' sons, otio of tho latter being Mr. W. H. Field, ox-M.P. for Otaki.
