ANTI-MILITARY LITERATURE.
CHEISTCBirRCH SHOW GROUND CASE. Or ToleiraDh-PreM liioolitlon.l Chrijtchurch, March 1. Judgment was given to-day by Mr< Bniloy, S.M., in the case in •whioh tho National Peace Council sued the Canterbury A. and P. Association for £25 damages for breach of contract, £25 for trespass of goods, and costs. Tho case arost out of tho cjostment of people distributing anti-military literature at the Metropolitan Show Inst November. In giving judg-' incnt for tho defendants, the magistrate stated that the show grounds wcro private property, and the contract made with tho plaintiff could not be held to be anything more than a license to cuter. Continuing, he said: "Without expressing any opinion of my own as to whether the literature is objectionable, but merely to show that tho action of the committee does not appear to my mind to have been arbitrary, it ia only necessary to point out that tho association was carrying out a programme of military events on that afternoon, and it certainly seemed illogical to permit antimilitarist literature—to certain portions of which very strong objection might be taken by some persons—to Ims disseminated amongst the crowd. In consequence of tho decision arrived at by tho committee, tho plaintiffs were asked to desist from die* tributing tho literaturo and takedown a placard. This they refused to do'. In doing so, plaintiffs wcro guilty of misbehaviour, and were legally removed, Judg- | ment would be for defendants." On tho application of defendant's counsel coßtt were awaidcd the defendants.
