MASTERTON NOTES.
(Uy Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) , Masterton, February 20. A sports lneeting was held at liideford to-day in fine weather, and with a satisfactory attendance. A number of Masterton pedestrians wcro among tho .competitors. ■ During the month of February, 87,812 sheep mid lambs, and 81 oxen, have been slaughtered at the Waingawa I'rceziug Works. The following judges have been nppoinfed for the Jlastei'ton Horticultural Society'-; Show, which is to be held on Wednesday next:—Fruit and vegetables, Mr. AJf. Booth; pot plants and nut flowers,-Mr. .1. X. Anderson; decorative classes, Miss l'rcbble; homo industries, Mrs. Harper; fancy work, Mrs. J. Casclbeig and Mis? Kockel. There wns a very light list at the civil sitting of the Magistrate's Court this morning, only one defended ease coming up for hearing. At tho criminal sitting to-nlbrrow, a.youth is to be charged with refusing to take the oath under the Defence Act. Jlr. J. Strang, of Glenside, has railed six draught horses to Palmerston North, to the order of a client. The demand tor draught horses in the Jlanawatu district is said to be very keen at present. At a meeting of the Vestry of St. Matthew's Church last evening, "a resolution was nassed wishing the vicar (Rev. Mr. 11. Watson) a pleasant trip Home, and a safe return. The Kev. Jlr. Watsun thanked the Vestry for their generous expression of good-will, and acknowledged the services rendered the church by the Vestry and churchwarden. He expressed the hope that, on his return, the new church would be well on the way to completion.
