•■, ; AN IMPORTANT SHIPMENT. 'A-number of -well-bred Clydesdales liave been-purchased in Scotland for Mr. J. if. Mackenzie, of Eomney Downs, Dunedui, and were to bo shipped for' New Zealand last month. The shipment, according to ■the' London correspondent of the "Otago Witness" is one of the most important • , of recent times, and contains quite a number of outstanding animals which should figure prominently in the Dominion before . many months have passed. From Messrs. A. and W. Montgomery, Ketherhall end-Banks, Kirkcudbright, Mr. . Mackenzie has bought 12 stallions. Thevars nil well come. Branton Goldsmith (15,760)' is a three-year-old by Ardletlien Goldsmith (11,588), a son of the noted Cold ' Mine (9310), mid he is out of a marc by Wee Macgregor (7383), by Macgregor (1487), the famous son of the great Darnley (222), and traces back'on the female eido to the great horsa Lord Lyon ('189). Another liorso foaled in 1908 is Good Game (15,2-10), by Benedict (10,315), a son of the world-famous Baron's Pride- (t>l22) out of a Maegregdr mare, and his dam is by First Lifeguard (10,0Gl), whose mother ■was a daughter of the great Merryton Prince of Wales (G73), with granddam by ■Wee Macgregor, great-graiiddam by Knight of Keir (1171), and great-great-granddam by Prince of Wales. There are two other horses of the same age. Ouo is Wa' Bun (15,456), by the renowned Hiawatha (10,0G7), which won the Cawdor Cup on four different occasions, and he is out of Fickle Fortune Princess, by Cedric (1087). a ninre bred in the tnited States. The other stallion foaled in 1908 .is British Consul (10,114), by the Prince Thomas (10,202) liorso Prince of Craigwillio (11,462) and out of a dam by tho Baron's Pride horse Carbineer (10,522), ■witli.'gra'iKlrlani by the big, stylish horse Triumvir (9070), a son of M'Camon (3818), one of the best gets of Macgrcgor. ■All the oilier Montgomery horses are rising three-year-olds, having been foaled in 1908. .Bladnoch (15,754) is an upstanding, weighty colt, got by Ganymede (14,130), a Km of'tho Marcellus (11,110) horse Mirror (13,106) out of a Baron*!* Pride mare, and the dam of Bladnoch is tho popular premium siro Up to Time (10,475), his grand'dnih being by the noted Tom (877), which did a lot of good for the breed in giving them weight and substance with quality. Fred (15,837), another of the lot, is by tlie champion Everlasting (11,331) out of a mare by Golden Chief (7775), by Macpherson (3825), one of the most successful ' sons of Macgregor. Next comes a colt named Glengonna (15,853), by the Cawdor Cup champion Memento (13,100) out of a mare by the HiawathaS horse Prince of Gavell'i (11,465), with granddam by the • famous' Priiico of Wales. The next one is particularlv well come. ■ This is Barony • (IG.H3), by Majestic Baron (13,017), a son • of Baron's Pride, and out of a (lam by • Bounding Alexander (10,702), by the first ' winner of the Cawdor Cup, the noted ' ■ Prince Alexander (8899), with granddam '■ by St. Glair Erskijie (4690), by the great \. cart horse Lord Erskine (1744). Bnrony .;' has several crosses of .the famous Prince 1,". '-" of Wales and Barnley blood. Cicero ; (16,415), another of the lot, can also boast ;; of the most aristocratic lineage. Ho is ; by Mamilus (14,264), a son of Baron's pi Pride "out of a Hiawatha mother, and his own dam is by Top Knot (6360), by Top ■Gallant (1850), the sire of the noted Sir ■ Evorard- (5353), and tracing back to the great horse lofty (460). Then comes Curler (16,416). by Enigma (10,739) out of n mare by tho Prince of Wales horse Orlando (8092), one of the best draught animals which ever lived his dam being by the great Darnley. Donibristlo (16,417) • . is a grandly-bred young horse. His sire . is the great prize liorso Mnrmion (11,429), : . and his dam is by Mazawatte (10,817). The other horse of the lot is Topsman (16,418), by Up Dux (12,774), a son of Hiawathn, and his dam is a mare by the Baron's Pride horse Durbar (11,695), tracing back to Orlando, Guy Mannering (4431), and other noted sires. Mr. Mackenzie has bought from Mr. /Jas. Kilpatrick, Craigie Jlnins, Kilinarnock, the handsome stallion Auchencruive (U. 573), foaled in 190 C. The sire of this horse is Ltuicer (12,205),- a son of Hiawatha out of a Sir Everard marc, and ho is from dam by the noted St. Blaise (3987), and .traces back to the best stock of the Clydesdale world. Auchencriiive stood fourth.in his class at the Highland and Agricultural Society's show at Aberdeen when a two-year-old, and as a three-year-old he had the important premium of the Dunblane, Douiie, and Cnllandev Society. The following year he had the Dalbeattie Agricultural Society's premium mid last year he was the Kincardine premium horse. These are districts where only horses likely to get big, sound stock are used, and Aiichencruive has not disappointed them. His sire, Glancer, stood 17.2 hands high. Mr. James Picken, . Torvs, Kirkcudbright:, has sold ■ to Mr. Mackenzie the 'colt General Douglas (10,412). This is a rare stamp of a young Clydesdale, and his breeding is of the best. mother, his dam wail by the' fine horse i- Speciality (11.517), ami lie goes buck on I"', the female side to the race of horses and mares from which sprang such noted animals as Gartsherrie (2800), etc. The sire of General Douglas was first at the Aberdeen spring , show in 1902, second nt Glas- ■ . gow, and fourth nt the Highland and Agricultural Society's show at Aberdeen.
