At ii mnelinf! of the Farmers' Union, a report from :i meeting of the Fanners' I'oliticiil Protection Federation was ujiproved to the effect that, after.due consideration of the relations between the Fanners - Union unit the federation, and seeing Unit the combination of (lie two bodies is earning friction, unit may do injury to the fanners' Union, it is advisable that the federation be allowed to withdraw from the Fanners' Union in order to permit of freer action in the future operations of both associations.
BOY COMMITS SUICiDE. Auckland, February 28. A pathetic' case of suicide ocrur'red nt Parnell to-day, when a Mxtoen-yrar-old lad named lieorgc ])avte~ took limbic acid, and was found dead in the simp of his employer. Deceased left a letter to his mother saying* that lio »•«.< a rank failure; mid was always doing things wrong. The letter concludes: "fe'o goodbye, and as I said before, don't fret, I am better where J am." Deceased was looked upon as a very promising boy.
MANSLAUGHTER. Auckland, February 28. A chauffeur named lih:>des Battye was found guilty to-day of the manslaughter of one John M'C'oiinell, with a strong recommendation to mercy. Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment without hard labour.
FURNITURE TRADE CONGRESS. Dunedin, I'clininry 28. The biennial congress of the New Zealand I'lunitiirc Trade Industrial Association of Workers opened here, to-day. Tht following delegates were present:— Messr*. 'D. (}. Sullivan and A. K. BiillinKer (Christchurch), J. Silverstone, and \V. Huston (Dunedin), I!. Walls and l'ntti«on (Auckland), 1). Kennedy and 1). Moriarty (Weliligton). Mr. l'nttison was elected president of the congress. The report presented showed that the unions were paying capitation as follow:—Auckland, 75 members; Wellington, 250; Christchurch, 155; Dunedin, fIG. The remainder of the day was devoted to consideration of proposed alterations in rules.

At a meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association Council this evening, it ivns resolred, to -nffinn the principle of amalgamation with the Northern Association, and the council as a whole was set up to draft a constitution for submissionto tho Northern Association. While the vote was o unanimous one, two members out of 'the five present thought the question should ho deferred to get an expression of the feeling of the centres. LADY MOTORISTS. Timaru, February 2". A party of four young ladies motored to the Hermitage and Lack, one of them, Miss BmM, driving. They had no difficulty whatever, taking two days each way with Tekapo as halting-place.
URUGUAYAN COMMISSION. Timaru, February 27. The Uruguayan Agricultural Commission arrived here to-night and . motored to Clarcmont, one of the best farms near, accompanied by officers of the Agricultural Department. They go on to Longbciich to-morroV.
