AMERICAN FT.AG HOISTED. By Telcerapli-Vress Aesociation-Oonyrieht (Uec. February 28, 11 p.m.) Now York, February 28. The United States cruiser West Virginia, acting under orders from the. Xavy Department, has hoisted the Stars mid Stripes ou Palmyra Island, in th« JVih'r, which Great Britain claims. Palmyra Island lies about 130 miles norjh-west of Fanning Island, the midPaciuc station on Hie Pacific cable. It has an area of lj square miles. A British protectorato was established over the island in 18S8.
