TE ARO HOUSE PICNIC
j.—— The annual picnic tendered by the firm to the employees of To Aro House was held at, Mason's Gardens yesterday. After a very enjoyable drive the party arrived at their destination. Luncheon was served by Messr-s. f.iodher and Co. under the shady avenue of trees. A toast to Mrs. Carter (wiio of the managing director of the linn, who is visiting the Dominion with Mr. Carter) was heartily received. Another toast proposed was to Mr. Clumt (tho newly-appointed manager) and Mis. (.'haul. In the , afternoon, many interesting events took place. Everyone , fceml-d. to Ijp in holiday mood, ami much interest was displayed in tho nail-driving competition and eyeing the pig. After the sports thp jhirty.adjourned again lo tea, and the usual toasts were proposed, the principal one being to Mr. and Mrs. Tomp'-ett. Mr. Tomp.-'eit is leaving the firm to take up a., business in the Old Country that will probably bring him back now and then to this purl of the country. After a walk round the gardens, and an enjoyable drive home, everyone seemed to bo in good spirits. The winners of the principal events are given below, the presentations being made by Mr-, farter:— Eyeing the pig—-L.vlios: Miss V. Mallows, tipiitlpnicn: Mr. 11. Tnmp.vjtl. Cigarette race, for ladies and gpiitlemcn —Mr. K. Uernascoui and Miss I'. Hands. Driving thp nail competition—(ientlemen: Mr. K. Bernasconi. Ladies: Miss D. Elliott.
