GENERAL COMMITTEE. fßy Talotrarh—Special Gorrespondant.l Palmerston N., February 27. The monthly meeting of the General Commitloo of tho Mnnawatu.A. and P. Association was held to-day, Mr. A. Conway presiding. Correspondence was dealt with as under:— From Mr. E. D. O'Rorke, Auckland, oDcring tu present the association with a hunters' challenge cup to replace the cup which was won at the last show, and stipulating that the cup should be for the niniii event as usual. On the motion of thu president, tho donor was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was decided, on tho suggestion of Mr. J. M. Johnston, that it be tailed tho O'Rorko Challenge Cup. From tho Manawatu Employers' Association, forwarding a copy of alterations to tho Workers' Compensation Act and Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act.—Received. From the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce asking tho association to tppoint a delegate to join a deputation to the Minister for Railways in regard to obtaining a new railway station- for Palmerston. Mr. T. R. Hodder was appointed delegate. From tho Rangitikei A. and P. Association, asking for the loan of from 150 to 200 pens for poultry.—Agreed to. From Mr. G. F. Moore, acknowledging receipt of trophy and offering to donate a trophy valued at .£5 ss. for tho next show—Received with thanks. From Messrs. Barraud and Abraham, offering to present another challenge cup in place of that won by Mr. G. F. Moore for most points in the fat cattle classes, and promising to' have it ready for the next show.—Received with thanks.
Watersiders and Manure Bags. A letter was received from tho Dunedin Stock Agents' and Wool and Grain Brokers' Association, enclosing a copy of a letter sent to tho Minister for Labour with regard to the demand made by the Waterside' Workers' Union regarding manures. Mr. J. G. Harkness stated that it appeared that they had -efused to handle manures unless the bags were paper-lined, and had then refused to handle them except with hooks, which destroyed the lining—lt was decided to write expressing regrot at the action taken.
New Challengo Cup. A letter was received from Messrs. Abraham and Williams enclosing 0 letter from the New Zealand manager for Messrs. Walker and Hall, Sheffield, stating that his firm would donate a perpetual challenge cup, valued at .£lO 10s.—It was decided to obtain further information before allotting tho cup. Mr. Abraham is to be thanked for the offer. The Defence Department wrote agreeing to tako a lease of the showgrounds for .£IOO for drill purposes, excluding tho military tournament. The treasurer (Mr. J. M. Johnston) read a statement of accounts up till the end of the year, showing a credit balance of 2s. 9d.
Membership. The committee set up to purge Ihe membership roll reported that suuie 3P5 names had been struck off, and a number of names were left on to again circularise. The result of the circular had b(<-n to bring in some £17, but, in the muiority of cases, it had also brought a filiation of membership. The pr.isont state of the roll was:—Life members, Inordinary members, 108G; junior members, 17; total, 1220. 'X his did not take into account the seventy-iive previously mentioned.
Other ■ Matters. The president stated that a meeting of the Ground Committee had been held on the grounds in the morning,' with reference to the question of nU and it was recommended that the building be erected parallel to the other pavilim. The i.iatier was reforred to the Wheeler Memorial Committee.
