CRICKET.

' 'The member's of the Auckland provincial representative cricket Qixm left Wellington yesterday, morning, and will arrive in Auckland this morning. Prior to their departure tho team assembled to bid farewell to Mr. G. J. Thompson, whose engagement has now expired. On behalf of the team, Mr. C. G. Hemua expressed to Mr. Thompson their appreciation of his services, attributing the victories of the tour to the successful manner in which the team had been coached by the departing cricketer. He presented him with a set of silver-mounted hairbrushes,'.and for Mrs. Thompson a gold . brooch. Mr. .1. S. Dickson, M.P., also spoke. Mr. Thompson expressed thanks for the presentations, and remarked that he could, not wish for a finer team to travel with thnn the Auckland representatives. Mr. Thompson will leave Wellington for England direct on March 1.
TEAM FOB AUSTRALIA. ' All the district cricket associations of the Dominion have received a oircUlar letter from tho New Zealand . Cricket Council suggesting that a team,should be sent to Australia next summer. The council is of opinion that an endeavour should, bo made to raise a fund of .£6OO by subscription, and it, is estimated that twp matches—New Zealand versus Wellington and Auckland-rivould produce another .£3OO. In response to a letter sent to the various Stato Associations answers have been received to . the effect that the net proceeds of tho matches would be offered to defray the expenses of the team.
