TOSTLE AT AUCKLAND. (Bj Telesraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, February 2G. A. Postle, wno is to meet J. Donaldson jver, three, distances—7syds., 150 yds., and iOOyds.—at the St. Patrick's' Day sports on the Domain on March IG, arrived in -Auokland by the Maheno yesterday, and is quartered lit the Waverley Hotel. In ai talk this morning the world's fprinter said that he had. eonio across early so as to get thoroughly fit ar.d bo able to. do himself justice. This was his first visit to New Zealand, a-nd ho intended .to make a tour of both islands,: returning to- Melbourne via Hobart. 'Ho and Dflnnldson had-been niatchcd to run in Dunedin, but he understood that, owing to .their agreeing to run in Auckland, the match had been cancelled.-, Probably, howeyer, they,would run in (jther contres. There was keen rivalry between them, and, as both had the reputation of being, straightgoers, the public could'rely upon-seeing a f straightout contest. Postle was confident of beaming anyone in the ■world ..up to 75 yards, and, even though .the. lop'ger distances , favoured Donaldson, he expected to mako .a big fight for supremacy. When he and Donaldson met Jast he bad conceded him lialf a yard' in 50yds., and had beaten him. In the 100 yds. Donaldson was handicapped to give him half a yard, but failed.
