CHAPTER OP ACCIDENTS. (Br Telecraoh.—Press Association.! Christchurch, February 2G. A strango accident happened in Hereford Street, between High Street and ■Manchester Sheet, this afternoon. Two horses, attached to a van belonging to tho Neiv Zealand "Express Company, bolted down the street towards High Street at a gallop. In their career they readied the end of a long line of taxi-cabs pulled up nn Ihe stand. As soon as the horses came close to the last tnxi-eab, they endeavoured to go on each side of if, and the result was that one of the horses i'an along the right side of the enb, while the other one dashed into tho back of it with its head and shoulders. The back of the ear was splintered, the iron work being twisted in all directions. The force of the impact thrust the cab forward, and it collided violently with the cab in front, nnd, in that way, three of the enls were telescopcd. The, iirst and f-econd cabs were somewhat severely damaged, and the third lo a less degree, while a fnurlh had its rear lamps crumpled up. The driver in tho lir-|; cab had a very narrow escape from being badly injured! I'as.-ers-by, who saw the hor-es coming, cried oat to hint, and he just had time to jump out of his cab before Ihe collision look place. The hni.-es were uninjured.
