PICNIC AT WAIKANAE.
On Saturday last Smith and Smith, Ltd., hold their annual picnic at Wailtanne as tho guests of Jlr. Win. Smith. The ncecouiffl was utilised for the races, and later in the day, through the kindness of Mr. Parata, the party went to 1 ho Maori meeting-houso where the prizes ivcro distributed. An interesting feature was Mr. I'arata's response in Maori to the vote of thanks, expressed through Mr. Smith. The, return train, journey was brightened hy numerous musical and elocutionary items. Single Ladies' Racc—Miss Reyling, 1; Miss Goodchild, 2. 50yds. Married Ladies' Race—Mrs. Burney', 1; Mrs. Tovey, 2. .
