ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
OPERATION ENDS FATALLY. An inquest was' hold yesterday concerning the death of William George Brett, a married man of -13 years, who had resided lit 22 Windsor Place, and had been an inmate of the Public Hospital sufTerin"- from a wound in'the head. ft is stated that deceased was working a Icad-plnting machine same months ago, when a holt struck him on the head. Later he received another blow. He was attended In- Dr. Boxer, and subsequently font lo Hie Hospital. On Saturday it was decided to operate. At the inquest, Dr. Woodhouso, assistant superintendent at the Hospital, stated that, though an examination of Brett's heart indicated that it was safe to administer an anaesthetic, deceased did not survive the operation. However, from the appearance of the wound death would, in any case, have been only a matter of time. CASE AT TRENTIIAM. 1 Arthur ChoV, married. 45 years of age, was found near the Hutt River, at tjentham, yesterday, with « deep wound in the throat. At about 11.30 a.m. Mr. Jo-epli Cloque, butcher, of Treiithnm, informed Constable D. Mnhoney, of Upper, llutt. of the matter. Constable Mahoney and Dr. Kemp arrived at the place at about noon. The doctor treated the ca«e, and had Cliotc removed to Upper llutt. Later he was sent to Wellington Hospital. APRON CAUGHT FIRE. , ■ Kmilv Reid. a single woman, of 32 years, residing at Kclbirnie, was admitted to the llii--pil.il yc-terday suffering from bnrn< received through her apron catching lire.' BOY AND HANDCART. Frederick Martin, a boy of 11 years, was injured yc-sterday through the capsizing of a handcart which he was playing with. The handle strnelt him in the stomach, and his injuries are internal.
