FEILDING NEWS

Farmers in the KimboHon district have beon much delayed with harvesting operations owing to the lateness and shortness of the summer. Even at the present time many green crops may be seen standing in the paddocks, and farmers are afraid that the crops will not ripen at all, unless a spell of fine warm weather is experienced. Some excellent crops of mangolds and other roots are reported. A rink from the I'eilding bowling Hub (P. Thomson, Mason, Stsirerf, and Paywell) went to Masterton on Saturday, and brought back t.he Dixon Cup again. A farmer from Kuuholton stales that, this season had been the best for twenty years for grass i-.i his district. The farmers there had always to contend with the grass grub, which, this season, has not been nearly so destructive. Consequently there had beon no trouble in fattening off the lambs. What is considered by Coly'on people, as the record crop of oals for their district was grown this year on Mr. J. Miehie's farm, on the road from Mcnzie's Ford to the Colyton Corner. A paddock of about 21 acres, which had previously been in grass for many years, was ploughed up, and sown with Algerians. N'o manure was used. The crop, which has just been harvested, is estimated fo yield an average of close- upon SO bushels. "
