MASTERTON NOTES.

(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Masterton, February 25. At a mesling cf the Masterton branch of the SliciircrV Union last night a presentation was made to Mr. J. M'Lcod, of Wnnganui, a former president of tho branch. Several tins of benzine ignited ou a railway truck at Masterfon railway Nation on Friday night, but the flames worn extinguished 'before much damage was done. Messrs. Ross and Co., of this town, in conjunction with Messrs. Jns. M'liatosh and Co., report the sale of Happy Valley Station, near Wellington, to a southern buyer. A team of bowlers from the Feililing Club succeeded yesterday in wresting the Dixon Cup from the Masterton Club, which recently won it from Palmerston. In a pigeon race from Pahiatua yesterday, the winner was Mr. S. Hoar; E. Sutherland was second.
