Tho grub aid not touch the oats'; but now that the prass is coming, the grubs are to be. seen coming from the. roots of the straw in thousands, and aro seriously ravaging grass and clover, ■ ; The Commission appointed, by the Government Agricultural Department to visit, ell parts of the Dominion, in connection ■with the ravages of the grub arrived on tho Peninsula on Saturday last, according to a southern paper. Tho party consisted Professor Thomas, .of Auckland University, Dri. Cockayne, Assistant Government Biologist; and Messrs. H; T. Turner, and J. G. Scott. The visit was made to ascertain the grub's'effect on cocksfoot, its habits,.and theeasiest way of' checking its ravages. ,A second visit by, the same■■.party, will bo made to the locality in May, to observe the autumn gnd winter habits of tho pest.
