ROYAL CHORAL SOCIETY.
♦ ANNUAL MEETING. >. There wero over a hundred members present at the annual meeting of the Wellington Royal Choral Society last evening. Mr. J. G. W. Aitken (president) presided. ■ The annual report and balance-sheet (which has already appeared in these columns) was adopted on tho motion of the chairman, who mado congratulatory reference to tho progress of the society, and eulogised its conductor (Mr. J. Mauglwn Harnett) on tho highly satisfactory results financially and artistically which' had been achieved during tho past year. • The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patrons, his Excellency the. Governor, the Priino Minister, and Sir Robert Stout; president, Mr. J. G, W. Aitken; vice-presidents, bis Grace Archbishop Redwood, Rev. Dr. Gibb. Messrs. W. Fraser, A. L. Hordman, W. E. Betlnine, A. S. Biss, A. H. Miles, and D, J, Nathan; conductor, Mt. J. M. Barnett; hon. accompanist, Mr. Horace Hunt; deputy-accompanist, Miss Gladys Watkins; hon. solicitor, Mr. R. H. Webb; hon. auditor, Mr. CD. Morpeth; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. H. Chitty; hon, librarian, Mr. J. E. Perry; hon. secretary, Mr. W. E. Caldow; hon. assistant secretary, Mr. M. D. M'Leod; committee, Messrs. R. T. Caldow, W. J. Hueston, F. S. Popo, F. B. Young, end S. G. Hamorton. Mr, Barclay moved to alter Rule 1 of the society rules to includo the words "except that any sum may bo voted to the honorary secretary." This was seconded and adopted-, without disciiwion. Mr. R T. Caldow, in speaking about the retirement of Mr. J. C. Young from the position of treasurer, dwelt on tho true and boundless enthusiasm which had marked his work, and expressed the hope that the society would not loso his services altogether. Ho proposed a hearty Tote of thanks to tho retiring treasurer for tho vnlunblo services ho hod rendered tho society. Mr. Pope nrconded the motion. Mr! .1. M. Barnett also mnd* flattering references to tho excellent work nnd wonderful enthusiasm of Mr. Younft. Mr. Aitken said that Mr. .Young was just brimming with enthusiasm, and, in losing, him, tho' society was loning an exceedingly valuable officer. Mr. Young said thnt as long as ho lived he hoped to be able to show hla > enthusiasm for nni6ic and his interest ,in tho society. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
