CHORAL RFCIPROCITY.
BETWEEN AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON.
At the conclusion of tho annual mooting of tho Royal Choral Society, hold in St. John's Schoolroom last evening, Mr. J.Maughan Barnett gavo on outline of a scheme whereby it is hoped that the Wellington Society may co-operate with the Auckland Choral Society in festival choral porformnncos. Mr. Baniett Baid that during his recent visit to Auckland in connection with tho opening of the now Town Hall and organ, ho had met Mr. Henry Brett, a great enthusiast in music. Mr. Brett had expressed the opinion, that it might be possible to arrange festivals in which both tho Wellington and Auckland Choral Societies might tako part. Ho (Mr. Barnett) at once saw tho great possibilities of this idea of Mr. Brett's, and after consideration had laid before him a rough plan by which it was possible for the Koynl Choral Society to_ cooperate with the Auckland Choral Society in'a festival—Wellington to send to .Auckland, and Auckland to send to Wellington. Tho initial festival would bo limited. Bay, to tlirco days, ench society giving a work separately and uniting in some familiar work such as "Elijnn." It was probablo that they, would bo able to arrange for ono of the strongest orchestras ever got togother in Now Zealand. Later on tho idea might broaden into one whereby festivals could bo arranged, in which all the cities could participate. Mr, Brett proposed to pass through Wellington ..again in About tlirco weeks' time, when ho hoped to bo able to arrange for the committee of the society to meet him and go into tho details of tho scheme. ■Mr. 1!. T. Caldow proposed, "That this mealing views with much favour the scheme outlined by Mr. Banictf, as a resull of several interviews with Mr. Henry Brett, of Auckland, in regard to combined festivals by the Auckland Choral Society nnd Wellington Royal Choral Society, and that it he an instruction from tlio meeting to the committee to take the necessary steps to forward tho matter."
