The two huge poles, or rather structures, which are to support the aerials for the Tinakori Hills wireless station, have been put logctlwr at the Works Department's yard at J'ipilen Point, and are now about ready l/.i 1 o removed to the, top of tho hills overlooking the Thorndon end of tile city. The poles ace not. merely tail masts, ns manv suppose, Thev are a scries of ladders, the li.lal height of which is 150 feel, or twice the lieigjil of the General Post Office. The limbers of the ladders arc hi mil Oregon pine, .-licks, each SO feet in length. The base eon-i-is of three ladders, supporting two others, which in lurn support the topmost ladder. With two of such slriicturo-. a doz"n of these huge .'iflfl. ladders are needed for (lie obvnfion of the hill-top aerial. The timbers have been powerfully boiled together and clamped will) sled in a manner lo ensure stability. They will be slaved to the ground in all dim-lions by sled-rope guys, ending in lenglh- of railway iron, which in lurn will be embedded in blacks of coiierelc.
