MASTERTON RAM FAIR.

0 — j IBy Teleeraßh—Proas Aiaocmtlon.) Masterton, February 22. The annual ram fair, undor the auspices of the Masterton A. and P. Association, was opened to-day, when Romncys, Shropshires, and' English Leicfsters wore offered. The. quality of the yarding all round was about the average, and fewer inferior sheep were put through than for a number of'years past. In Romneys, the. highest price obtained was 200 guineas for one of Mr. Ernest Short's stud rams. The same owner obtained IGS guineas for another ram. Flock Romneys ranged up to 61 guineas, In Shropshires, Mr. H. D. Yavasour, of Marlborough, beaded the list with 13 guineas lot a splendid specimen of flock ram. Leicesters were in poor demand. The Southdowns and Lincolns will be offered to-morrow. (By Telegrapli.-Special Correspondent.) iMasterton, February 22. The first Romney Marsh fair under the auspices of the Romney Marsh Sheepbreeders' Association was held this afternoon, Tarns from the best-known flocks in New. Zealand being submittal to a- very large gathering of buyers. Special prizes of £3, £2, and £1 (donated by the New Zealand Romney Marsh, Sheepbreoders' As. sociation for the best shearling at the Romney Marsh fair) were awarded this morning to R-ecord Breaker. The same owner's Record was second, and Mr. G; E. Allen's Tipua third.- Mr. J. E., Hewitt's exhibit was very highly commended, and also Mr. W. Perry's. There were ,61 entries. The. association also donated prizes of <£3, «£2, and £\ for the best two of shear stud rams entered at the sale. The first prize went to Mr. P. Mung?.vin, but the judges (Messrs. A. S. Holmes, .of Invercargill, and A. Beattie, of Hororata, Canterbury) did not consider the. other sheep up to a standard deserving of prizes. In the pen of flock rams, for which prizes were' also allotted by the Sheepbreeders' Association, Mr. P. Mungavin was awarded first, and Mr. G. E. Sykes second.
