NEW CHURCH AT KARORI. The Methodists of Knrori were fortunate in sewing such a linp day for thn laying of tho stone of (heir now church, wliil.i ceremony look place on Wednesday afternoon, the stone bring laid by hi.s Worship the Mayor of Knrori (Mr. C. Chapman (superintendent of the circuit) was in charge of the proceedings, and associated with him were the Hevs. Ward, Blainiros, Hands, and Clark (tho pastor of the church). After devotional exercises the Rev. E. 0. lihiinires gave an interesting address on Methodism', its objects, aims, growth, and vitality. Amongst some of the things stated was Die fact. that, at present it was the largest I'role.stanl denomination in the world. The Rev. J. G. Chapman complimented the people upon their energy nnd per.-e----venince, nnd especially tho labours of their pastor (tho Rev. J. R. Clark), who has tolled incessantly lo bring tho ncheme tn n successful issue. Thn Rev. .1. R, Clark gave a financial statement which showed that by tho aid of tho Wellington Church 'Extension Fund, and Hie loan fund of the connexion, nnd the generosity of friends, Iho money required for building was in .sight. The cost of Iho building would be just over i! 1000. Tho Mayor (who was presented with a polished mallet, silver-mounted, nnd inscribed), in declaring tho stono laid, sjioko interestingly of the work of the Church. During tho past eighteen years that, he had been a resident, of Knrori, although not a member of the Church, he had worshipped with thorn. Ho spoke of tho advance Knrori had made, nnd tho urgent ncoossity for this new church, as well ns tho now church the Anglican Communion had jtist erected, all of which stood/for progress and those. Christianising, influences which are so necessary for tno (mo progress of any community. Offerings for tho building fund were received. Tho church will be a handsome one, designed by Mr. Bennie, architect. When completed it will 1 )0 seen all over thn valley. It will accommodate 450 persons. Messrs. Myer and Illingworth aro the builders.
