CHILDREN'S OUTING.
Last vear the. officers in charge oi the Salvation Army's Children's Home took the children camping out for three, or four weeks tii Dnv\s Hay, and, this year, they are being taken to Kanikn Day. The following letter in connection with the object has been received:—"The public will remember that about this lime last year sixty girls from I lie Salvation Army Children's Home, Owen Street, had a three weeks' holidnr in camp ot Days Hav. 11. can easilv be surmised that not aw- of those who participated will forget the treat. They returned to tho home happy, and loaded with good things. Many of them went out with white faces and "weak bodies, but: returned sunburnt and smiling. This year I hey have gone to Karaka Bay for a month, commencing Inst Mnndov. People understood Jiisl what was wauled, and responded willingIv. Goods and money to the valuo oi Jy>o were handed to the matron, and so the burden of collecting was taken off her shoulders, enabling her to give her undivided attention to tho children. Ihc like amount is required this year (uml will be next, as the outing has become an annunl one now). I was wondering, sir, if von would be good enough to open a fund in your valuable paper to rain* the sum required. In doing so, you would not onlv bo conferring a great benefit on the children, but vou would give pleasure to those who wish to be generous, when they know the cause is a good one. _ The money so raiaxl could bo handed to Staff-Captain Roy, who would soo that none was wasted. 1 regret to have to state that the officers in charge find the work strenuous, and in iny opinion they are in great need ol a holiday—even nioro than the children— but they must work on for the children s sake, l'nrcels of grocery, meat, bread, fruit, vegetables, etc., can bo left_ at .lones and Ashdowu, tailors, Willis Street, or at tho New Zealand Motor Co., 50 Cuba Street, whero I will undertako to convey them to the Bay, I consider this a fitting opportunity lor local people to give concerts. I should suggest ono at Worser Bay, Kilbirnie, Mirnmar, etc. 1 should be quite willing to organise them if persons interested would communicate witn me. 1 herewith enclose a list of the names, and n further 21s. to start tho fund as suggested. Thanking you in anticipation,' "J. D. READE. "Lower Hutt."
