INCREASE IN BIRTH RATE. By Teleeraptt—Press Association—Copyrleht Sydney, February 20. The population of New South Wales on December 31 was 1,093,391, an increase for the year of 55,383, the highest recorded in tUo history of the Stat*. Marriages numbered 15,275,. a record, while the birth rate was the highest 6inco 1896. Tho death rate, though not the lowest recorded, lias been less only on four occasions during the last seven years. The deaths from cancer totalled 1235, equal to .74 per 1000, showing a steady increas*.
