.WEST AUSTRALIAN LOAN. The West Australian loan for £1.000 000 tearing interest at 33 per cent., issued in Louden last week at the minimum price of 99, was a failure The underwriters were saddled with 74 per cent, of the issue, and the issue has since been .quoted at ii discount of 12s. 6d. Obviously London is not enamoured with Australian loans, for if attractiveness were the sole consideration the issue of last week with Its increased rate of interest and concessions' would have proved tempting. The loans raised by West Australia in London in recent years have been as under:— 1893—3 per cent for £i.000,000 at 963 percent 19CO-3S per cent for £880,000 at 100 percent 1001-o per cent for £1,500.000 at 91 per ceut 190Z-3J per cent for £1.500,000 at 102* percent 190d—3J per cent for £1,400,000 at 964 per cent 1937-35 per cent for £1.000,000 at 97 percent 1908-3* per cent for £1,000.000 at 97 percent 1909—34 per cent for J81.445.C00 at 965 per cont 1910—31 per cent for £1.342,000 at 96* percent 19U-3J per cent for X1.650.K0 at %J per cent (to redeem a loan falline due) 1912-33 per cent for £1,000,000 at 99 per cent The rat.3 has advanced from 3 per cent to 33 per cent., and it seems, probable that the rulniK rate will be 4 pel- cent., which will upset the calculations of State Treasurers.
